What surgery patients should know
Our surgery staff looks forward to caring for you. Here are some ways you can help, too:
- Fill out and bring your two-page medical history document the day of your appointment or the day of your pre-registration
- Review your patient packet, paying special attention to the Anesthesia Risk and Pain Control sections. Your anesthesiologist will meet with you just prior to your procedure
- Bring your Advanced Directive (Durable Power of Attorney for healthcare) if you have one
- Stop using diet drugs and herbal supplements two weeks prior to surgery, due to possible harmful interactions with anesthesia. If you have questions, call your surgeon or call (530) 274-6619
- Please follow all instructions you are given about eating and drinking the day before your surgery
- It is vitally important to call your surgeon if you develop a cold, fever or any signs of infection
- If you are going home following your procedure, you must have a ride. The hospital recommends that a responsible adult stay with you for 24 hours after your procedure
On the day of surgery:
- Take your medications as instructed by us
- You may brush your teeth
- Please do not wear lotions, makeup or jewelry
- Leave all jewelry and valuables at home
