Occupational, Physical, Speech and Language Therapy
Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital offers a wide-range of outpatient rehabilitation services for our community. We continue to grow as the needs of our patients change and we strive towards excellence in patient care and rehabilitation needs. Services include:

Occupational Therapy
SNMH Occupational therapists have specialized training working with patients with a variety of diagnoses. Occupational Therapy works on improving independence in daily living activities such as self-care, home management, returning to work or school, resuming leisure activies, returning to driving and/or community mobility, assesing the home, recommending assistive equiptment, and caregiver instruction. Occupational therapy may also work to improve the function of the arm and hand, mobility for daily living tasks, vision, perseption, and cognition for successful performance of daily life tasks.
Speech and Language Therapy
SNMH Speech pathologists each have many years of experience working with patients with a variety of diagnoses. Evaluations and treatment are offered for the following conditions:
- Swallowing and video function swallow studies (pediatric and adult)
- Voice (Laryngectomies, vocal fold nodules)
- Aphasia
- Tramatic Brain Injury
- Child language, children's speech
- Accent modification
- Learning disabilities
- Auditory processing
- Memory problems
- Trismus evaluation and therapy
- Parkinson's Voice Clinic
Neurological Rehabilitation
The SNMH transdisciplinary team includes occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language therapy. Diagnoses treated include stroke, brain tumor, tramatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and neuromuscular disorders (e.g., multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, ALS, Guillain Barre).
An evaluation is performed and treatment areas addressed may include improving motor function, balance, mobility, vision, perception, cognition, swallowing, speech and language, activities of daily living, adjustment and coping strategies, assistive equiptment recommendations, wheelchair and seating systems, home modifications, family and caregiver instruction.
An individual treatment plan is designed for each patient. Family and caregiver involvement is strongly encouraged. The goal of therapy is to acheive the greatest independence possible in daily life.
