Labor & Delivery
The manager of our Labor and Delivery Department doesn’t know how many babies have been born at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital since it opened, but in her 30 years at the hospital, they add up to more than 15,000. That’s a lot of experience, all of which is available to mothers who choose to give birth in the home-like environment of the Women & Infant Care Unit. With a Jacuzzi tub, modern medications and the use of an intrathecal procedure to control pain, thousands of Nevada County women have made the choice to deliver their baby at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and expressed their satisfaction with the outcome.
Our unit features the latest security technology and state-of-the-art equipment – everything needed to stabilize premature infants, if
necessary, until they can be transported for more advanced care. The 28 nurses who work in this department are nationally certified in fetal monitoring and have completed advanced training in neonatal resuscitation. “We’re a smaller hospital,” says Manager Ann Erdmann, “but we have everything mothers and infants need for a safe, happy birth experience.”
