Cancer Registry, Mandated Reporting
Like all hospitals, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is mandated to record, file and report information on each cancer case they treat. To protect patient privacy, this information is strictly confidential.
Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital began to collect cancer data in 1987 and established a Cancer Registry in 1995. Our database is now made up of several thousand cases. An in-house cancer registrar maintains the confidential records. Information in the registry enables our medical staff to maintain and improve the quality of patient care. Data also goes to the California Cancer Registry and the National Cancer Data Base and is used in cancer research and prevention efforts.
